Mayor's Address

 

Citizens of Hope Town,


It is my pleasure to tell you about the financial condition of your municipality, in accordance with Article 955 of the Municipal Code.

FINANCIAL POSITION


As of December 31st 2015, the financial report of the Municipality, verified by Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, accounting firm, was summed up this way:


total revenues were                                                                                                                                 508 155.00

total expenses before interest and appropriations                                                                             411 265.00


the surplus for the year after interest and appropriations                                                                  92 338.00

this is without the accumulated surplus.


According to the consolidated financial statement, the accumulated surplus was                       137 176.00

 

REMUNERATION OF ELECTED

For the year 2017, my remuneration, including my expense allowance will be                                  8200.00
and for each councillor, remuneration and expense allowance will be                                                2733.00

AWARD OF CONTRACTS

All municipalities are subject to detailed rules for the granting of contracts, I put the list of all our contracts involving an expenditure of more than $ 25,000 in 2015 concluded (or contracts over $ 2000 concluded with the same contractor with a total expenditure exceeding $ 25,000).

TAX RATE

For the year 2017, the tax rate will remain at 0.85 per $ 100.00 assessment.The garbage service is $ 180.00 per residence and the recycling service has been reduced to $ 45.00 per residence.We are working extensively to present a balanced budget for 2017.
 

GOALS FOR 2017Municipal roads:

  • Replace the culvert on the 4th Range
  • Continue paving Tennier Lane

Community Center:

  • Finish phase 2 of the renovation project

Environment:

  • We are continuing to work to protect our barachois (our little paradise).

Civic numbers:

  • This year, we realized Phase 1 of a very important project. One hundred (100) civic numbers have been installed on the 132. These were installed at no charge to the citizens. In 2017, we will complete our project by having civic numbers installed for all our residential addresses.

CONCLUSION

I would like to thank the Municipal Council for their commitment, their good judgment and their good work ethics. I also want to thank all of the volunteers who dedicate their time and support to our municipal organizations.
